Aaron Davidson As Managing Director of H.I.G. Ventures, Mr. Davidson focuses on investment opportunities in the life sciences sector. ![]() Prior to joining H.I.G. Ventures, he was Vice President at Ventures West with a focus on venture investing in life sciences companies. He began his career with Eli Lilly Company, one of the world's largest global pharmaceutical companies. He spent a decade with Lilly in the U.S. and Canada, filling various management roles including business development, strategic planning, market research, and financial planning. After Lilly, he spent a year as Vice President of Corporate Business Development at SYN-X Pharma. He currently serves on the boards of Gemin X Biotechnologies, Inc., HyperBranch Medical Technology, NeurAxon Inc., Novadaq Technologies, Inc. (public June 2005), Oncogenex Technologies, Inc., and Tranzyme Pharma. He is a board observer at Avera Pharmaceuticals, Inc. He also served on the board of Salmedix, Inc. prior to Cephalon’s acquisition of Salmedix in June 2005. Ken Galbraith Mr. Galbraith is a well-known and active member of the North American life sciences community with over 20 years of experience guiding companies in the biotechnology, medical device, pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors. ![]() He is currently General Partner of Ventures West (Vancouver, BC) where he leads that firm's biotech practice. Prior to joining Ventures West, he spent 13 years in senior management with QLT Inc., a global biopharmaceutical company best known for its product Visudyne, used for the treatment of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) in more than 75 countries around the world, with peak sales in 2005 of approximately USD $500 million. Mr. Galbraith was Executive VP and CFO at QLT before retiring in 2000. He has served on the Board of Directors of several public and private biotechnology companies located in BC and the US, including Angiotech Pharmaceuticals and Cardiome Pharma. In addition to serving as a Director for Alder, he also is on the boards of Aquinox Pharmaceuticals, Celator Pharmaceuticals, MacroGenics, NeurAxon, OncoGenex Technologies, and Presidio Pharmaceuticals. Heather Preston Dr. Preston is a Managing Director at TPG BioTech (San Francisco, CA), where she manages that firm's Biotechnology Venture Capital Fund. ![]() Prior to joining TPG Biotech in May 2005, Dr. Preston was a medical device and biotechnology venture capital investor with JP Morgan Partners and New Enterprise Associates. Prior to her venture capital career, she spent five years at McKinsey & Co. in New York, where she was a leader of their pharmaceutical and medical products consulting practice. She advised large pharmaceutical companies and biotechnology companies on critical strategic issues such as R&D portfolio prioritization, M&A opportunities, new technology acquisitions and product growth strategies. Dr. Preston has an undergraduate degree in biochemistry from the University of London and a medical degree from the University of Oxford. She completed a post-doctoral fellowship in molecular biology at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard University, and trained in Internal Medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital and in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at U.C.S.F. During her academic career, she was the recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship, a Fulbright Cancer Research Scholarship, a Harlech Scholarship and a Science and Engineering Research Council Post-doctoral Fellowship Award. Dr. Preston is the co-founder and CEO of Virobay Inc., a biotechnology company which is seeking to develop new therapies for the treatment of Hepatitis C Virus (HCV). In addition to serving as an Alder Director, she also serves on the boards of Albireo Inc., Axcan Pharmaceuticals, Virobay Inc. and VLST Inc., and is an observer on the boards of Aerie Pharmaceuticals and Macrogenics. ![]() |

Deepa Pakianathan Dr. Pakianathan joined Delphi Ventures in 2001 and today leads the firm's biotechnology investment activities. ![]() Prior to joining Delphi, Dr. Pakianathan was Vice President in the healthcare group at JP Morgan, where she was involved in healthcare M&A transactions worth more than $6 billion, and public offerings for biotechnology companies that raised more than $9 billion in capital. From 1997 to 1998, she was a biotechnology research analyst at Genesis Merchant Group. She worked as a postdoctoral scientist in the Immunology Department at Genentech Corporation from 1993 to 1997, where she evaluated chemokines and chemokine receptors as targets for therapeutic intervention. She earned her Ph.D. and MS degrees from Wake Forest University, and holds a masters of science degree from the Cancer Research Institute, University of Bombay, India. ![]() |

Clay Siegall Dr. Siegall co-founded Seattle Genetics in 1998 and is the company’s President, Chief Executive Officer and Interim Chairman of the Board of Directors. ![]() Under his leadership, Seattle Genetics has developed a diverse portfolio of clinical and preclinical product candidates targeting a variety of cancer and autoimmune indications. The company is also a leader in antibody technologies, notably its antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) platform. Dr. Siegall has guided Seattle Genetics’ capital-raising activities, securing more than $230 million through public and private financings, including the company’s initial public offering in 2001. In addition, the company has entered into multiple strategic collaborations, including those with Genentech, MedImmune, CuraGen, Bayer and PDL BioPharma that have generated nearly $50 million since 2001. Prior to co-founding Seattle Genetics, Dr. Siegall was with the Bristol-Myers Squibb Pharmaceutical Research Institute from 1991 to 1997 and the National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health from 1988 to 1991. In addition to serving on Alder's board, he also serves on the board of the Washington Biotechnology and Biomedical Association (WBBA), is a member of the Board of Scientific Counselors for the Cancer Treatment Research Foundation. He also serves on the Board of Governors of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Business Alliance. Dr. Siegall received a Ph.D. in Genetics from George Washington University and a B.S. in Zoology from the University of Maryland. ![]() |

Randall Schatzman Prior to co-founding Alder in 2004, Dr. Schatzman was Senior Vice President of Discovery Research at Celltech R&D Inc., where he led a group of 95 scientists responsible for much of that company's therapeutic antibody pipeline. ![]() Prior to joining Celltech, he was Director of Gene Discovery at Mercator Genetics, helping to solve the gene responsible for hereditary hemochromatosis and advancing the Del-1 angiogenesis factor into preclinical models and partnering Del-1 with Valentis. Prior to Mercator, he was at Syntex/Roche Bioscience where he helped found the Cancer and Developmental Biology Institute. He also served as Preclinical Team Leader for Cytovene and Team Leader for Valcyte, and was responsible for preclinical studies on Cellcept. Dr. Schatzman received his Ph.D. in Molecular Pharmacology from Emory University before completing an American Cancer Society postdoctoral fellowship in the laboratory of J. Michael Bishop at the University of California, San Francisco. ![]() |

Bruce Montgomery Prior to joining Alder in October 2010, Dr. Montgomery served as founder and chief executive officer of Corus Pharmaceuticals from 2001 through its acquisition in 2006 by Gilead Sciences. ![]() He continued on at Gilead post-acquisition and served as Senior Vice President and Head of Respiratory Therapeutics, where he successfully led the approval of Cayston (aztreonam) as a treatment to improve respiratory symptoms in cystic fibrosis patients with Pseudomonas aeruginosa. He previously held positions in clinical development with PathoGenesis and Genentech. Dr. Montgomery recently served on the board of directors for Zymogenetics and is a trustee of the Washington State Life Sciences Fund. He received a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and a doctorate from University of Washington, and completed postgraduate training at University of Washington and University of California, San Francisco. ![]() |

Peter Bisgaard Mr. Bisgaard joined Novo Ventures (US) Inc. (San Francisco, CA) as a partner in 2009. ![]() He is a member of the board of directors of Altheos Inc., Asante Solutions Inc., HTG Molecular Diagnostics Inc., Light Sciences Oncology Inc. and Otonomy Inc., and was a board member of HemoFocus ApS, NatImmune A/S and Neurokey A/S. From 2001 to 2009, he was employed with Novo A/S as a partner in Novo Ventures. Prior to joining Novo A/S he was with McKinsey & Co. as a general consultant and as a specialist within the Scandinavian Corporate Finance and Strategy Group. At McKinsey, he focused on strategy development, mergers, acquisitions and alliances in various industries. Mr. Bisgaard is the co-author of 'Growth by Mergers & Acquisitions' published by Børsens Forlag, 2004. He obtained an MSc in 1998 from the Technical University of Denmark and was at the same time awarded a post-graduate degree in Mathematical Modeling in Economics by the European Consortium for Mathematics in the Industry. ![]() |
